Centereach, New York, is a great place to live and is one of Long Island’s more affordable places to buy a house. The village of Centereach – sited within the town of Brookhaven – is home to plentiful shopping, has convenient access to both the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway, and is within 4 miles of the Ronkonkoma station of the Long Island Railroad. As it is located midway between Brooklyn and Montauk, Centereach homeowners can easily make a day trip to either end of the Island. Additionally, MacArthur Airport is located just twelve miles outside the village.

Centereach History and Postwar Expansion
Originally inhabited by the Setauket and Nissequogue Native American tribes, European settlers began arriving in the Centereach area in the late 18th century. The name “Centereach” was adopted in the early 20th century when residents began petitioning for a post office. After World War II, Centereach became an attractive suburban destination for many families seeking to escape the crowded city. The development of highways and good roads facilitated commuting to and from Centereach, making it a viable option for those working in New York City or other parts of Long Island.

Centereach Resources and Amenities
Centereach residents have access to many attractive community resources and amenities. The highly rated Middle Country Central School District provides educational services to Centereach, as well as Selden, parts of Lake Grove, Coram, Lake Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson Station, and Farmingville. This school district includes eight elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, and a special education learning center. Centereach residents can also avail themselves of a top-notch library and public pool complex. In terms of parks, the Percy B. Raynor Memorial Park provides playing fields for athletic activities.

Shopping possibilities abound in Centereach, which has its own Walmart, along with dozens of restaurants and other retail establishments sited along Middle Country Road. Just a few minutes away in Lake Grove, you’ll find the Smith Haven Mall, with 1.3 million square feet of retail space hosting more than 140 stores.

Housing Styles and Lot Sizes in Centereach
