Five family farms are located within Wading River; along nearby Route 25A you can find farm stands and orchards, with many establishments offering “pick your own” strawberries, peaches and pumpkins in season.
Riverhead, a bustling city named by Forbes Magazine in 2023 as a “Best Place to Travel” is a short drive from Wading River and offers many additional dining and recreational activities.

You don’t have to venture into Riverhead to find a nice place to eat. Local eateries include La Plage (French cuisine by the beach), Desmond’s Restaurant & Pub, the Greek Island Diner, the North Tavern, and Ruggero’s. Local bars include Phil’s Restaurant & Sports LNG, Pure North Fork, the North Tavern, and Truffles Bistro Restaurant.
Schools
Wading River’s public school system is the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, which administers Miller Avenue School, Wading River School, Prodell Middle School, and SRW High School. This district won the 2019 National Blue-Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education. Higher education institutions proximate to Wading River include Suffolk County Community College, Saint Joseph’s College, and Dowling College.
